No Dig Gardens
Lots of people come to our shop to buy the ingredients for a no dig garden. This really is an easy way to start growing your own vegetables or flowers.
No dig gardens are a way to improve the soil you already have by adding organic matter and nutrients, and letting nature do the cultivation for you.
These are the basic steps for making a no dig garden. It's all about layers. Water well after each layer.
The first step is to add a thick layer of newspaper or cardboard to the area you've picked for your new garden. This is to prevent weeds/grass from growing through.
Then add a layer of Lucerne mulch hay.
Next add a layer of manure, then a layer of straw followed by another layer of organic material such as compost or manure.
You can make as many layers as you want alternating manure/compost (nitrogen) with straw or hay (carbon).
When you are ready to plant seeds or seedlings, using a few handfuls of Potting Mix/Garden Soil around where you're planting helps give them a good start.
Once you have finished planting add another layer of mulch - Sugar Cane Mulch is easiest to spread in between your new plants.
